Juan Soto teases fans with latest MLB team announcement before he tricks them with a marketing gimmick
Juan Soto announced a new deal, but it isn't close to what the baseball community is looking for. A marketing gimmick for the Celsius energy drink brand featured the star outfielder teasing a new 'team,' fueling his free agency decision.
Soto is the biggest free agent in the MLB. The four-time All-Star is expecting offers in excess of $600 million and close to Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani's $700 million contract. He has already met five big-market clubs that are in contention to sign his services. At just 26 years of age, his free agency is a unique one with offer lengths expected between 12-15 seasons.
There have been new rumors emerging about his contract each day. But it seems like the marketing team at Celsius capitalized on it. Soto released a post on his Instagram account where he sits in front of plenty of mics and starts announcing a new partnership. But instead of an MLB team, Soto revealed that he is signing a sponsorship deal with the beverage brand.
"This wasn't an easy decision, but after meeting with the team, it became clear where I wanted to be. That being said, Team Celsius. What, you were expecting a different announcement?" Soto said as he put on a cap and opened a can of Celsius.
Soto's addition is a major one next to Celsius recently sponsoring the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout.
Boston Red Sox aggressively push to sign Juan Soto
After five years of being dormant during the offseason, the Boston Red Sox are finally looking to settle the face of their organization going forward. They met with the outfielder and were said to have had an 'impressive' meeting.
As per insider Hector Gomez, the AL East team has increased the number of years and the amount of money attached to the contract.
They are also reportedly looking to sign two of the best free agents available - Max Fried, Corbin Burnes and/or Blake Snell.
