Ketel Marte looks back at surpassing Derek Jeter, Rickey Henderson & others in incredible achievement

On Sunday, Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder Ketel Marte took to Instagram, posting a story to reflect on his incredible postseason hitting streak over the years. Marte has an incredible 20 game hit streak over the years 2017-23, which puts him number one on the list, above some of the biggest names in the sport, such as Derek Jeter, the late Rickey Henderson, and more.

Marte had a fantastic 2024 season, finishing the regular season with a .292 batting average, 36 home runs and 95 RBIs. However, the 31-year-old suffered a nasty ankle injury as the business end of the season was right around the corner. He got injured after colliding with Garrett Stubbs of the Philadelphia Phillies while he was covering second base.

This led to him missing out on some of the Diamondbacks' most important games of the season. Ultimately, the serpents ended up missing their main man dearly, as they ended up missing out on the postseason on the last day of the regular season.

Ketel Marte finishes third in the 2024 NL MVP standings

As the Arizona Diamondbacks train gathered steam after the All-Star break, the serpents were at one point the hottest offense in the league, often overpowering sides with the firepower in their ranks.

Spearheading the lineup was none other than "King Cobra" Ketel Marte, who was at the time seen as the most obvious challenger to Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for the NL MVP award.

However, injury struck at the worst possible time, derailing both the Diamondbacks' bid to reach the playoffs and Marte's MVP challenge. Eventually, the 31-year-old finished third after the BBWAA voting was completed, behind Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets and unanimous winner Shohei Ohtani.

Though the way such a promising season ended would likely have left a bitter taste in the mouth. For now, Marte can look to get some offseason work in to head into 2025 in top condition, with the aim of carrying on from where he left off in 2024.
