Kyle Schwarber breaks Alfonso Soriano's record for most leadoff home runs in an MLB season

Veteran slugger Kyle Schwarber has been the face of the Phillies franchise for a long time, and his ability to carry the team forward in crucial moments continues. Schwarber is one of the best hitters on the team, especially when it comes to cranking home runs.

On Tuesday, Schwarber created history by smashing the most leadoff home runs in an MLB season. The Phillies star broke Alfonso Soriano's 2003 record after smashing his 14th leadoff home run.

It's a huge achievement for the veteran slugger, and it could never be better than achieving it in a Phillies uniform. Schwerber's 14th leadoff home run was against the Tampa Bay Rays. Right-handed pitcher Taj Bradley threw a fastball, which was smashed to right center field with an exit velocity of 113.9 mph.

The Phillies continue to hold the best record in the MLB, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phils are among the top teams predicted to win the World Series this year, and Schwarber will play a crucial role in the playoffs.

Schwarber smashed a total of 35 home runs this season and holds a batting clip of .257 with a .372 OBP and a point 868 OPS. Scharber has 95 RBIs and drove in 100 runs in 510 appearances at the plate.

Kyle Schwarber is more keen on winning games than setting records

Less than a week ago, Kyle Schwarber tied Alfonso Soriano's record. However, the star was not too excited since he was more keen on winning games. When asked about tying Soraino's record, Schwarber said winning was more cool than setting records.

“I’ve always said that those things will be cooler when I’m done. Right now, I’m just trying to win baseball games. Winning a baseball game is cooler than that,” Schwarber said while playing in Toronto last week.

Schwarber is one of those respectable players in the league, and his consistency has helped the team come a long way this season. Schwarber leads his team in home runs, followed by Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos in second and third spots. Schwarber is also the leader in RBIs and walks.
