LA Dodgers star Mookie Betts itching for infield opportunity
Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts underlined his desire to return to playing second base despite being satisfied with his outfield role ahead of the new MLB season.
The Dodgers' 2023 season could not have gotten off to a worse start, after starting shortstop Gavin Lux tore his right ACL during a spring training game against the San Diego Padres. He has been ruled out for a year.
Speaking to MLB Radio, Mookie Betts revealed having discussions with manager Dave Roberts about shifting to the infield long before Gavin Lux's horrifying injury:
"I've been having the conversation probably for the last three or four years. Just my desire to get back in the infield, because that's my home. But they pay me to be out on the right, I definitely enjoy being out on the right-field for sure"
Reiterating his desire to return to infield, Betts said:
"But you know, you only play the game for so long, and I would like to get back to my roots before it's all said and done. But if I gotta stay in right, I gotta stay in right"
