"Less leeway for arrogant black guy" - Top sportscaster suspects Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s boos by Royals fans have racial bias
On Thursday, ex-Miami Marlins president David Samson and sportscaster Dan Le Batard talked about Jazz Chisholm Jr. and why he is an unpopular figure among the Royals faithful at Kauffmann Stadium. Chisholm Jr. was booed by the crowd in Game 3 of the ALDS in Kansas City on Wednesday.
The reaction comes after comments he made after his ALDS opponents won Game 2 at Yankee Stadium. However, according to Dan Le Batard, there may also be a racial bias at play.
In October 10's episode of 'Nothing Personal with David Samson', Le Batard gave his take on the situation
"In today's America, if it's a swaggering black guy in a baseball unifrom, that guy's gonna get booed for a lot of different reasons that's not just performance, especially in that sport. The flamboyant black guy in sports is [always] going to get some booing," Dan Le Batard said. [26:15]
"It will happen to [someone like] Bryce Harper as well, but the arrogant black guy, David, yes [he's going to get booed]. I'm not saying that's the only reason, it can be that they don't like what he said (comments after Game 2), and also they're gonna have less leeway for the arrogant black guy, because that's real," Dan Le Batard added. Jazz Chisholm Jr. enjoys playing villain at the Royals in Game 3
The New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in the third game of the ALDS at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday. Giancarlo Stanton came up clutch for the Pinstripers, recording an RBI and hitting a solo home run to help his team take a 2-1 lead in the series.
After Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s comments following the Royals' victory in Game 2, it was perhaps expected that the Yankees' number 13 would be public enemy number one when he went to Kansas' ballpark. However, it appeared Chisholm Jr. enjoyed being the center of attention when he ran out onto the diamond.
Despite a spirited Royals fightback to come back on level terms after going two down in the game, the Yankees had the last laugh, as they registered an important victory that now puts them on the cusp of qualification for the championship round.
These two teams next take to the field on Thursday, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. and company aim to seal their berth in the next round.
