"Less valuable than Juan Soto" - MLB analyst claims even Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, Devin Williams together can't match Mets superstar
The New York Yankees have made several notable additions to the roster in the offseason after missing out on superstar slugger Juan Soto, who joined cross-town rivals New York Mets for an MLB record $765,000,000 deal.
After Soto decided to sign for the Mets in free agency, the Yankees pivoted by bringing in All-Star ace Max Fried, two-time Reliever of the Year Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers and former Rookie of the Year and All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger.
While the feeling in the Yankees community is that the franchise has done well to compensate after failing to bring back Juan Soto, MLB analyst Jayhay believes the Dominican All-Star outweighs all three. He also argued that the Yankees would've signed players even if they had signed Soto.
In the latest episode of "Baseball is Dead" Jayhay said (23:00 onwards):
"Juan Soto is the correct answer because the other thing that I think a lot of people that are saying, 'oh I'd rather have Max Fried, Devin Williams and Bellinger than Soto,' In their head, they're not considering that the Yankees also would have continued to fill out the roster.
"If they had signed Juan Soto, would it have been Cody Bellinger? Would it have been Max Fried? No, probably not. But you don't leave those roster spots blank, right? I get the idea of spreading risk around. Oh, it just takes one injury, and the wand soda thing. That's fine, all three of these players combined are less valuable than Juan Soto."
MLB analyst claims Yankees would sign one of Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado
While Jayhay had his say on the Soto situation, co-host and analyst Jarred Carrabis believes the Yankees are not done in the offseason, especially with the team needing to strengthen the infield.
Carrabis said that the Yankees will get one of either Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado to fill in at third base. He said:
"I feel like they are going to one of them. I feel like they are going to get one of those two guys. They are not done (in the offseason) and it's going to be one of those two. "
Jayhay responded to his co-host's opinion and felt that singing either Bregman or Arenado puts the Yankees in a strong position to make the World Series next year. However, he stood by his earlier statement of Juan Soto being better than the new additions, even if they signed Bregman or Arenado
