Giants' Logan Webb & wife Sharidan react to historic 'fentanyl dealer murder conviction' in cousin Kade's tragic poisoning death

It's been a year to remember for San Francisco Giants ace Logan Webb from a personal standpoint. Although it appears that the postseason will not be in Webb's future, the superstar pitcher has plenty of reason to celebrate both on and off the field.

Not only did Logan Webb earn the first All-Star selection of his career this season, but his family were able to celebrate a much more personal victory off the field. On September 17, a jury in Placer County, California, found 23-year-old Carson Schewe guilty of murder for selling a pill that contained fentanyl to Logan's cousin, Kade Webb.

Kade, who was only 20-years-old at the time of his death, was found dead in a local Safeway after ingesting the pill sold by Carson Schewe. This is the first murder conviction for a fentanyl drug deal by a Placer County jury. Schewe is scheduled to be sentenced later this year on December 5.

Following the news of the guilty conviction, both Logan Webb and his wife Sharidan took to social media to share the official news posted by the Placer County District Attorney's Office.

Although Carson Schewe being found guility will not bring Logan's cousin Kade back, it is a step in the right direction in preventing such a tragedy to another family.

Logan Webb and his family have been active in the fight against fentanyl and opioids

Since Kade's death, Logan has made it a goal of his to help in the fight against fentanyl, even going as far as to donate $450,000 to the cause. When the San Francisco Giants superstar signed his five-year, $90,000,000 deal, part of that money was sent to the Giants Community Fund, with his contributions being focused on fentanyl awarenes.

According to the CDC and the National Center for Health Statistics, there were an estimated 74,702 deaths attributed to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. Although the use of opioids has been a topic of much debate in recent years, the CDC reported that opioid-related deaths were actually down for the first time since 2018.

Despite the decline, there is still much work to be done related to the fentanyl crisis in the United States. That being said, the continued work of Logan Webb and the San Francisco Giants, as well as the guilty conviction of dealers like Carson Schewe, are steps in the right direction.
