Luis Arraez, William Contreras, and Logan Webb react to Willy Adames' enthusiasm to play for the San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants strengthened the infield by singing one of the best shortstops in the game, Willy Adames, to a franchise record $182 million contract over seven years.
Following his move to the Giants, Adames shared a montage of his time with the Milwaukee Brewers, hyping the Giants fans. In an Instagram post, the shortstop wrote:
"San Francisco, are you ready?"
Willy Adames' post for his new team was noticed by Luis Arraez, William Contreras, and Logan Webb, among other MLB players.
All-Star Padres infielder Luis Arraez reacted with 'fire' emojis on the post while Adames' former Brewers teammate William Contreras wrote:
"Uyyyyy."
Adames' future Giants teammate and All-Star pitcher Logan Webb was hyped by the coveted shortstop's post as he wrote:
"LFG. "
The former Brewers shortstop is coming off a career-best offensive season in Milwaukee in 2024 with 32 homers and 112 RBIs over 161 games. His addition to the infield means the Giants now boasts one of the best left sides in the game with All-Star Matt Chapman at third.
Willy Adames' contract with the Giants eclipsed San Francisco icon Buster Posey's $167 million deal with the team in 2013. Incidentally, Adames' signing was overseen by Posey, his first significant move as the Giants' president of baseball operations.
Buster Posey shares his take on Willy Adames breaking his contract record
The three-time World Series winner with the Giants was amused after finding that it was his contract that Adames broke to set the franchise record.
“We were kind of laughing about that,” Posey said Tuesday. “When we felt like we were getting close, we were like, ‘What is the biggest contract?’ Then we ultimately figured out that it was mine.”
Adames was reportedly on the shopping list of several teams, including National League powerhouses, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. Posey shared his admiration for the shortstop, saying:
“We’re just thrilled to have this guy be a part of Giants baseball. He showed an interest early on that he believed in the vision of what we’re trying to do here, and we just are thrilled that we got the best shortstop on the market. Great defender, great offense, clutch hitter, but most importantly, we got a great person."
Willy Adames will be unveiled as a Giants player in an introductory press conference on Thursday at Oracle Park.
