Luis Rengifo Injury Update: LA Angels face another injury scare as star infielder leaves game days after Mike Trout's season-ending update
LA Angels' third baseman Luis Rengifo hurt his wrist once again during Friday's game against the New York Mets. He reaggravated the injury during his second plate appearance while taking a swing against Paul Blackburn. He subsequently exited the game and was replaced by Brandon Drury.
This is the same injury for which Rengifo got the night off from Thursday's game after hurting his right wrist on Wednesday.
When Rengifo was removed from Wednesday's game due to a flareup of his right wrist, the team didn't do any imaging. However, now that the injury has flared up again, the Angels will likely be cautious and may opt to go for imaging this time around.
Notably, the outfielder sat out nearly three weeks due to the same injury in July.
Angels fans will hope the injury won't have him losing too much time, especially after they were hit by the news of Mike Trout's season ending early.
Angels' star Mike Trout ruled out for remainder of the season due to torn meniscus
Another disappointing update came from the Angels earlier after the team announced their superstar outfielder Mike Trout will miss the remainder of the season after he tore his meniscus in his surgically repaired left knee during a rehab assignment.
As per the team, the centerfielder will need season-ending surgery to repair it yet again, after first having had the surgery done in May.
While addressing the news of being ruled out for the season, Trout was devastated, as the months-long recovery process yielded no fruit:
"After months of hard work, I was devastated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again - ending my hopes of returning this season," Trout wrote in a post to X/Twitter.
"Playing and competing is a huge part of my life. This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans. I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger," he added.
Initially, Trout exited the rehab game two innings into it with what was first reported as knee soreness. However, there was more to it and Thursday's season-ending update confirmed it.
The AL West club currently sits in fourth place in the standings with a 47-62 overall record for the season.
