"Makes all the sense in the world" - Trevor Bauer's agent Rachel Luba backs Zack Cozart, urges Reds to sign the pitcher amid Hunter Greene's absence
Trevor Bauer's agent Rachel Luba supports the notion from former Cincinnati Reds All-Star infielder Zack Cozart that the franchise should sign the pitcher as a replacement for the injured Hunter Greene. Luba said that it will be a logical decision for the Reds, as Bauer is admired by players and coaches at the ballclub, having played two seasons for Cincinnati.
Trevor Bauer has featured for four different franchises over his 10 seasons in the MLB and won the National League Cy Young Award in 2020. In 2021, Bauer was suspended for 324 games by the MLB following allegations of sexual assault, which was later reduced to 194 games on appeal.
However, Bauer was not signed by any MLB team after he served his ban, and he hasn't played in the major leagues ever since. The 33-year-old pitcher signed for the Yokohama DeNA Baystars of the Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan last year. He's now attached to the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Mexican League.
On Sunday, retired Reds shortstop Zack Cozart posted a tweet on X asking his former team to add Trevor Bauer to their starting rotation after Greene was moved to the 15-day IL. Luba, offered her thoughts on that idea in a reply to Cozart's post.
"Makes all the sense in the world. … and the clubhouse players and coaches love him," Luba wrote.
The Cincinnati Reds are fourth in the National League Central with a 60-64 record, 12 games behind division leaders Milwaukee Brewers. Nevertheless, they still have an outside chance of reaching the playoffs, as they are six games behind the final Wild Card berth.
Trevor Bauer enjoyed a successful spell with Reds
In the middle of the 2019 campaign, the Cincinnati Reds made a three-way trade with the Cleveland Indians and the San Diego Padres to bring Trevor Bauer to their starting rotation. However, he couldn't make the impact they had hoped and finished the season with a 6.39 ERA.
Bauer then signed a one-year, $17.5 million contract with the Reds for the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. He finished the season on a 5-4 record with a 1.73 ERA and 0.795 WHIP, apart from two complete game shutouts to clinch the NL Cy Young Award.
