“Man Rizzo is awful”; “No Soto, no Mojo” - Yankees fans fume as team’s offense flounders against Dodgers in absence of Juan Soto
The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers had one of the most intense games this season. Both teams were forced into extra innings as their dominant pitching prevented the offense from scoring after 10 innings. However, the Dodgers triumphed and ended the game with a 2-1 final score.
The Dodgers were the first to score at the top of the 11th inning as Teoscar Hernandez drove in a two-run double. Despite Aaron Judge's RBI single at the bottom of the 11th inning, the Yanks could not prevail against the dominant Dodgers.
Yankees fans were upset to watch their top-tier team fail offensively. Anthony Rizzo was the last out of the game as he failed to send Judge home with his flyball. Fans were upset with Rizzo, and the absence of Juan Soto seemed to have taken a toll on the team.
Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X.
"Man Rizzo is awful," wrote one fan on X.
"No Soto, No Mojo. Season over," another fan wrote.
"We need Juan Soto back in this lineup ASAP," added one fan.
Fans continued to vent their frustration as some called out Rizzo and some blamed Giancarlo Stanton sarcastically.
"I’ve seen enough. Rizzo gotta go," wrote one fan.
"Thank goodness “Giancarlo Stanton” is our 4 hitter. Clean up hitter did a nice job today with 0-5 and 3 embarrassing strikeouts," one fan chipped in.
"Worst offensive effort i’ve seen this entire year don’t do that ever again," added another fan.
Yankees' offense failed to support Cody Poteet
The Yankees could not support Cody Poteet offensively as he pitched 4.2 scoreless innings. Poteet has limited experience in the MLB, but his dominance against the strong Dodgers offense was incredible. He prevented the Dodgers from scoring and surrendered just two hits.
Soto's absence seemed to have caused a significant crunch for the team. Despite their struggles, the Yanks are one of the best teams in the majors and this could be a minor hiccup in their strong journey. The Bronx Bombers have rebounded well this season and have been doing a fantastic job from the pitching end.
Soto taking the day off was probably the best to avoid any further injury. Left-handed pitcher Nestor Cores Jr. will start for the Yanks in Game 2.
