Mets, Cardinals HOFer makes feelings known on potential Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso lineup in New YorkÂ
Pete Alonso has been urged to re-sign with the New York Mets by Hall of Famer Keith Hernandez and form one of the deadliest trios in baseball alongside Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor.
There has been much speculation about the 30-year-old's future as he has not re-signed with his former team after entering free agency this year. While reports suggest that he is looking for a longer contract than what was offered, Hernandez believes that Alonso should sign with the Mets:
"The big question is, are they gonna sign Alonso? If they sign Alonso, and you've got [Francisco] Lindor, and you've got Pete as well as [Juan] Soto... they've got a very versatile roster as far as everyday players," Hernandez said on the 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' podcast.
"I think Pete wants to stay. What's Pete gonna sign for, 150 million? If he sings for $150 million you're set for life. You know it's not like 30-40 years ago where you signed $800,000 or $500,000 contracts. That is not even close to what salaries are today, you're set for life.
"So, with that trio of Lindor, Pete and Soto...that is a formidable trio," he added.

Pete Alonso is a four-time All-Star who is an established power hitter in the MLB. Playing at first base, he is a former MLB home run leader who recorded 34 homers in a down year. However, because of his lower-than-usual output last year, he remains a free agent looking for a contract around six to eight years long.
Several big names in the free market have been signed over the past week but Pete Alonso's future remains uncertain. With time, his market will be reduced to fewer teams, who might be good for the Mets' chances of re-signing him. As of now, Alonso remains a valuable piece who might end up being a huge addition to the New York lineup next year.
MLB insider backs SF Giants to steal first baseman Pete Alonso before deadline
Pete Alonso's market in the MLB has shrunk steadily in the past few weeks with several other first basemen already signed by teams. Most insiders believe that the slugger will eventually re-sign with the New York Mets, while the Seattle Mariners have an outside chance of landing him. However, FanSided's Zachary Rotman has backed the San Francisco Giants to land Alonso:
"The Mets still loom as a fit, but why can't the Giants take advantage of a clearly depleted market? He'd add another big bat to this lineup and make the Giants legitimate Wild Card threats," Rotman said via FanSided.com.
While his market may be hitting a low now, there is still plenty of time for Pete Alonso to decide on his future MLB team.
