Miami Marlins fans divided over recent trade involving JJ Bleday and A.J. Puk
The Miami Marlins have acquired the services of Oakland Athletics relief pitcher A.J. Puk in a trade deal, with outfielder JJ Bleday moving to the other side, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.
Bleday made his debut for the Miami Marlins in 2022 and was one of their top draft picks in 2019. Fans were left bemused by the swap and took to Twitter to share their frustration.
Some fans made Miami Marlins GM Kim Ng the target of their ire.
"Kim Ng can NOT make trades"-one user tweeted.
''Can we acknowledge how absolutely awful of a trade this is. Bleday looked like the only competent young bat in that lineup next to jazz''-@dalvin4mvp
Kim Ng is spinning her wheel to make decisions again
MLB fans struggled to wrap their heads around this deal.
Hand up, I do not understand this for the marlins
"I’m probably a bad person for saying this these days but Kim NG is not good at her job, but it’s typical Marlins"
"This tweet honors AJ Puk and his MLB Record 0-53 record against the 2022 Mariners"
For a team struggling in the offensive aspect in the game, this move was difficult to comprehend.
"Weird trade for the Fish. Puk is a young lefty out of the pen with a pedigree, but he’s already had TJ & had some work on his shoulder in late 2020. Bleday hasn’t hit well in the minors for the most part, but they’re hurting for offense. Feels weird to give up on him already."
"Marlins are addicted to having elite pitching and god awful hitting. This trade makes 0 sense"
"Wow Marlins really gave up on Bleday that fast"
Well, at least some saw the bright side of it.
AJ Puk is guaranteed to pitch like Cy Young vs the Mets this season.
And some A's fans were not happy about trading Puk to the Miami Marlins.
"Extremely random move today. Puk has potential. Another wasted prospect by Oakland. Can’t believe not one of Puk, Luzardo, or Holmes worked out."
But if you are one for summaries, the following tweets do a good job of it.
"A few years ago this trade would have been cool"
"The only analysis of this trade I've seen is my entire TL saying it makes no sense for anyone lol"
Bright spot in Miami Marlins 2022 season
The Marlins had a disappointing 2022 with a 69-93 win record, ending up fourth in the MLB National League East division.
While it could be understood reinforcements would be required on the hitting side, Jazz Chisholm Jr. showed glimpses of why he might be the next big thing in baseball. And next season, he is expected to do even better, but in a different position.
