Miami Marlins Trade Rumors: A.J. Puk could emerge as a candidate before the deadline
Miami Marlins could become the sellers before the trade deadline ends, and A.J. Puk has come forth as a potential choice for the trade candidate. There have been numerous trade candidates available for the Miami Marlins, be it Tanner Scott, Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Jesus Lazardo before his trip to the 60-day injured list.
However, A.J. Puk is a more ideal candidate, as he has improved his game this season the most. Puk has been one of the best relievers in the major league for more than a month. His journey as the Marlins starter didn't have a great ending, but since he moved to the bullpen, he has improved drastically.
On April 9, during one of his starts, he had walked five players, but he has walked only five players since May 13. He boasts a 2.39 ERA in 26 1/3 innings, and with just a 5% walk rate, he has fanned 26% of the batters, which makes him a traction for the other teams on the list.
There hasn't been a hitter who has edged out a run from Puk since June 17. He has redeemed himself as a reliever after struggling as a starter. It's no wonder that Scott and Chisholm are the big names as trade candidates, but A.J. Puk deserves to be on the list alongside them as well.
A.J. Puk might be a great choice for the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates' bullpen, which was a big part of their strength, doesn't seem to be in great condition.
They've given leads away in a lot of games and showcased poor performances in the later innings. A trade for the left-handed A.J. Puk of the Miami Marlins could be the answer, as per Rum Bunter.
Puk's initial conversion to a starter this season proved unsuccessful, but his return to the bullpen has been nothing short of dominant. Over 10.2 innings of relief, he has surrendered three earned runs, which isn't a fluke.
Puk's success as a reliever dates back to his stints with the Oakland Athletics and the Marlins. The Pirates desperately need bullpen depth right now, and Puk is up for grabs.
A trade for Puk could be a win-win for them. The Pirates would bolster their bullpen, while Puk would land in a situation where he could thrive as a reliever. So, it could be great for all parties if the Marlins put him up as as a trade candidate.
