Mike Trout Injury Update: Angels superstar outfielder makes strides in recovery, eyes late July return

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout is reportedly making good progress in his return from surgery. According to Rhett Bollinger, the 11-time All-Star is hitting soft tosses on the field again and started running for the first time since early May as well. Trout underwent surgery to fix a torn meniscus in May.

His progression is an encouraging sign for the Angels, who are undoubtedly eager to see their star player back in action.

Trout spoke to reporters after his workout and said he was feeling good about his recovery and imminent comeback:

"The running progression is the most important part [...] I’ll continue to build up, and I believe I’ll be back in late July."

Since starting baseball-related workouts again in late June, Trout has been slowly getting more active. According to reports, he plans to start batting practice in the next few days, which will mark another important milestone in his recovery process.

What could Mike Trout's return mean for Los Angeles Angels?

Prior to his injury, Trout was slashing .220/.325/.541 with 10 home runs and 14 RBIs over 109 at-bats. While these numbers are far below his usual standards, Trout has a big effect on the field beyond just his stats, providing leadership and a formidable presence in the Los Angeles Angels lineup.

Before calling Trout back to the big leagues, the Angels will likely send him on a rehab assignment to make sure he is ready and in good shape. As the first half of the 2024 MLB season ends, both fans and players will be looking forward to Trout’s return and the boost he could bring to his far-from-successful team so far this season.

The Angels currently sit fourth in the American League West standings with a 37-52 record. Their last series saw them lose 2-1 to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

For now, Trout remains focused on his recovery, and each day brings him one step closer to returning to the field. Angels fans will hope Trout's return can inspire a change in performance from the rest of the roster to register some wins and help push the club up the standings for a potential playoff berth.
