MLB Analyst anticipates the possibility of the Yankees adjusting Gleyber Torres and his salary to accommodate a left-fielder - "Torres and his money"
The New York Yankees and Gleyber Torres are in the same dilemma, which is to constantly keep thinking about the shortstop position in the infield. The Yankees were able to advance to spring training while maintaining competition at shortstop. Brian Cashman made it clear that the Yankees will be open to ferocious competition for the infield position after the 2022 season.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa's recent slump in form has pushed Torres to play some important games at shortstop later in the season. Torres played in the infield for the entirety of the postseason in 2022. His injury scare forced the Yankees' management to think about their young prospects from the AAA team; thereby, Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza too joined the race.

Sources close to the Yankees' management say that the organization can work on finding a new place for Torres and use his salary amount to boost their payroll in anticipation of signing a new left fielder, which has been a paramount point for the Yankees since the 2022 season ended.

What's in store for Gleyber Torres with the New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have already agreed to a one-year contract extension with Gleyber Torres to avoid arbitration, but his use in the infield remains doubtful among the growing talent that minor league players are bringing to the Yankees organization.
Torres, who is 26 years old, has just completed a comeback season after two years of shaky play. He slugged .257 with a 31% on-base percentage, 24 home runs, and 76 RBIs. He has had his highest wRC+ (115) since 2019 and has struck out at a rate of 22.6% while walking at a rate of 6.8%.

With Anthony Volpe needing a bit more time to hone his skills before making the jump to the MLB, the New York Yankees are more likely to keep Torres this time. Volpe has improved within a short period of time, as evidenced by his recent performances with Scranton and Somerset. Torres may be a Yankee for the last time in the coming season.
