MLB analyst calls for Pete Alonso to act like 'top 4’ HR hitter in Mets vs. Brewers Game 3, labels him 1 of the best next to Ohtani, Judge, Schwarber

New York Mets superstar Pete Alonso is one of the best home run hitters in the MLB. A multi-time Home Run Derby champion, Alonso has made a living by sending baseballs out of the stadium at an incredible pace.

All that said, Pete Alonso has been relatively quiet in the postseason so far for the New York Mets. With his team on the brink of elimination Thursday night, fans will be hoping to see the 'Polar Bear' step up against the Milwaukee Brewers and advance to the NLDS.

It's not just fans who are hoping to see Alonso come up in a big way, but former major leaguer Sean Casey as well. The three-time All-Star spoke on an episode of his show, The Mayor’s Office with Sean Casey, telling Alonso to prove why he is among the best players in baseball (6:29):

"Zoom out my man, you've got a great thing going, you've had a great thing going for six years. You're one of the best home run hitters of the last six years in this game [6:29]."

There is no denying Alonso's home run-hitting ability. Since his rookie season in 2019, the New York Mets first baseman sits behind only Aaron Judge and ahead of Kyle Schwarber for the most homers hit in that time span. Casey said (6:33):

"When you're talking about names like Ohtani, and Judge, and Alonso being in that top 4, you're one of the best in the business. Go act like it tonight man and go get 'em."

If Pete Alonso is to step up against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night, he will have to finally get the better of pitcher Tobias Myers. Although it is a relatively small sample size, Alonso is 0-for-2 against Myers over his career.

Pete Alonso's postseason performances could affect his pending free agency

One of the biggest stories heading into the upcoming offseason is the potential unrestricted free agency of Alonso. While there is a chance that the four-time All-Star and the New York Mets reach an extension agreement before he ever hits the open market, however, if they cannot, he will be one of the most sought-after names in free agency.

Although Alonso's track record speaks for itself, if he is able to come through for the Mets and help them go on a deep postseason run, it could make his next contract even better. That being said, if he struggles, it could work against him.
