MLB icon Jose Canseco's daughter Josie reacts to Shohei Ohtani becoming the fastest player to join the 40/40 club

Jose Canseco's daughter, Josie Canseco, applauded Shohei Ohtani after he entered the 40-40 club on Friday. Ohtani hit a walk-off grand slam off Tampa Bay Rays' reliever Manuel Rodriguez to reach the 40-home run mark in the season. Earlier in the game, he had stolen a base in the fourth inning to reach 40 stolen bases.

On Sunday, Josie reshared a video on social media and used clapping emojis to commend "Shotime." Interestingly, her father, Jose, was the first entrant to this club when he made more than 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in 1988. Since then five others have joined, with Ohtani being the latest.

Shohei Ohtani is the quickest to reach 40-40 in MLB history

Reaching 40-40 was not the only feat achieved by Shohei Ohtani when he hit the stands in Friday's game against the Rays. While he is the sixth man to join the 40-40 club, he was the quickest among them to achieve the feat in a season.

Ohtani achieved it in 126 games and broke the record of Alfonso Soriano, who did it in 147 games in 2006. Here's how many games the other members played in order to reach the 40-40 mark:

  1. Jose Canseco: 151 games (1988)
  2. Ronald Acuña Jr.: 152 games (2023)
  3. Alex Rodriguez: 153 games (1998)
  4. Barry Bonds: 158 games (1996)

All five sluggers had to use the majority of September to reach the mark. On the other hand, Ohtani did so before the last week of August began. Soriano, who was the second fastest, did it by September 16, 2006.

With the 40-40 mark behind him, Ohtani is aiming for the next unimaginable feat. The Dodgers slugger is currently on pace to enter the 50-50 mark.

"Obviously, the closer I get to 50/50, the more I'm contributing to the team win," Ohtani said [via FOX Sports]. "If that's how it is, I'm happy for that."

For Ohtani, team matters more than individual accolades, but it is natural that the team will be in the best position if the player gets closer to another historic mark.
