Juan Soto Injury Update: Yankees star's X-rays come back negative, still expected to be out of Sunday's lineup
New York Yankees slugger Juan Soto was missing from action on Saturday as his team took on the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a late scratch after still feeling the residuals of hurting his right hand sliding into home plate on Friday.
He was sent to get imaging done to see the extent of the injury, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief. His X-rays came back negative, per MLB's Bryan Hoch, and should be back in the lineup in no time.
Despite his X-rays coming back negative, Hoch does not believe Soto will return to the lineup for the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Aaron Boone said Soto could undergo more tests on Monday.
Soto's availability this month has been limited. Earlier, he sat out of three games noting discomfort in his left elbow, and the Yanks have certainly felt the effects of this.
The Yankees need Juan Soto's presence in the lineup
On Saturday, the Yankees offense could not get the ball rolling in their matchup against the Blue Jays. They were outhit 14-8, giving them their 32nd loss of the year, and dropping them down in the AL East.
Nestor Cortes did not have the start he had hoped for, lasting just 4.1 innings. During that span, he gave up three runs on seven hits while giving up a home run to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Offensively, five New York starters were held hitless on the afternoon. Only Ben Rice, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, and Austin Wells were successful against Toronto's pitching staff.
The Yanks need Soto back in the lineup. Through 81 games, he has hit .302/.434/.570 with 20 home runs and 60 runs batted in, taking much of the pressure off Judge to perform.
