MLB Injury Update: Mookie Betts shares positive update as possible return date approaches; Eduardo Rodriguez set for D-Backs debut and more
With the second half of the season in progress, teams are doing their best to claim a spot in the postseason. Amid this, they await the return of some of their key players to get back on the roster.
For the Dodgers, Mookie Betts' injury just received a positive update, while Eduardo Rodriguez of the Arizona Diamondbacks is also set to make his debut. Let's get to the updates already:
#1. Mookie Betts (Fractured left hand)
Dodgers leadoff hitter Mookie Betts has been sidelined due to a fractured left hand that he suffered in a game against the Kansas City Royals on June 16.
Betts seems to have almost recovered from his fractured arm and in the latest update by reporter David Vassegh, he said:
"I don't feel anything at all."
There's a good chance he may play a different position upon his return, as he said:
"There's a lot of guys that can play SS here. If that's not in the cards then that's cool. ... I can go from there to anywhere else."
Manager Dave Roberts said that Mookie Betts is slated to play a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 12 or 13, while the team is on a road trip.
#2. Eduardo Rodriguez (Lat strain)
After signing starter Eduardo Rodriguez to a four-year, $80 million dollar contract this past offseason, the Arizona Diamondbacks were content knowing a good arm would help their rotation throughout the season. However, less than a week ahead of Opening Day, Rodriguez hit the IL due to a lat strain and has remained sidelined ever since.
That finishes this Tuesday, with Rodriguez set to make his debut for the D-backs against the Cleveland Guardians, manager Torey Lovullo said.
Other injury updates
Merrill Kelly is on track to return to Chase Field. He is set to make his rehab start on Tuesday for the D-backs' High-A affiliate, the Hillsboro Hops.
Gerrit Cole of the Yankees will return this Sunday to pitch against the Blue Jays after skipping a start earlier due to body fatigue.
LA Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon will be activated Tuesday for the game against the Yankees.
