MLB Injury Update Today: Yankees' Jazz Chisholm nears return; Max Scherzer's rehab start scratched and more
In the latest MLB injury news, the Yankees received some positive news about Jazz Chsiholm Jr., while the Rangers had to take a tough call about Max Scherzer's scheduled rehab start.
Meanwhile the Padres are awaiting Fernando Tatis Jr.'s return. Here's taking a deeper look into the injury updates from 22nd August:
#1 MLB News: Jazz Chisholm Jr. to reactivated from IL by Yankees
Fortunately, for the Yankees, their trade-deadline star acquisition Jazz Chisholm Jr. will only remain on the sidelines for the minimum possible time. The 26-year-old suffered a UCL sprain in the series against the White Sox on Monday. It was expected initially that the rehab would take longer than 10 days.
However, as reported by MLB insider Andy Martino, the Bombers could activate their third baseman on Friday itself. Jazz has been an important addition to the Yanks lineup this month, hitting at .316 with 11 RBIs that have included seven home runs.
#2 MLB News: Max Scherzer will have to wait for his rehab start
Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer has been on the sidelines since the first week of this month.
It was reported that the veteran had right shoulder fatigue. Scherzer was scheduled to pitch for their Double-A affiliate team, Frisco Roughriders. There was no clear reason given for the scratching of the start.
The 40-year-old had missed most of the first half of the season due to back problems, which was nursing throughout the offseason. Since returning to the roster on June 23, Scherzer had posted 3.89 ERA, 2-4 record with 38 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched.
#3 MLB News: Fernando Tatis Jr. timetable for Padres return still unclear
Fernando Tatis Jr. has missed more than two months of action after he was shut down in June due to concerns of a stress reaction in his femur bone in the right leg. The Padres have a 'loose timetable' set for his return while the two-time All-Star begins minor activities including sprinting and dry swings.
Tatis played through the right leg pain for most of the first half of the season. He earned himself an All-Star nod with a .279, 36 RBIs and 86 hits in 80 games played.
He was moved to the 60-day IL as a procedural measure for the Padres so that they can activate him whenever needed.
