MLB Trade Deadline: Top 5 teams expected to be buyers and sellers before July 30

The MLB Trade Deadline is just around the corner and several teams have locked their targets for potential players. The next week is expected to be busy for managers as they try to make the best moves before July 30. While a list of teams have shown interest in a trade, only a few are expected to come through.

Almost every day a new player is discussed in trade talks. As days go by, the MLB trade rumors get hotter with some top players on the list of potential targets.

5 teams expected to be buyers and sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline

#1 Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have been in a slump and are still lagging behind the .500 mark. Selling and buying are the only options that could spice things up for the team.

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer was clear when he stated that the team is looking toward 2025 and beyond. That said, they are expected to make some adjustments before the MLB trade deadline.

#2 New York Mets

The Mets were one of the first teams that had trade rumors swirling around Pete Alonso. Now that they have taken him out of the market, they will look for better prospects that could help in the long run.

Mets president David Stearns also shared a few words with agent Scott Boras. The chances of the Mets being buyers and sellers at the MLB trade deadline cannot be ruled out.

#3 Cleveland Guardians

While many look at the Yankees and Orioles in the American League, they fail to see the Guardians competing in the division race. 2024 has been a great year for the team and they will push their limits to make the playoffs this season.

While they sit with a limited pay role, the Guardians will look to bolster their starting rotation. However, unlike the Mets, they could target prospects that could help them win their short-term goals.

#2 San Francisco Giants

The Giants might seem to have a struggling season, but they are only five games behind the Wild Card spot in the National League. The goal is tough, though, for the Giants with their present lineup.

The only way around is to make a few trades and acquire key players who could help them win crucial games.

#1 Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks made it to the World Series after winning only 84 games last season. Their biggest strength was winning the games that mattered. Knocking out the Dodgers was crucial and they did that with ease.

The D'backs will look to make the best of what they have remaining from last season. Adding Jordan Montgomery was part of their plan to make it to the World Series again. With the MLB Trade Deadline looming, expect them to make some moves.
