MLB Trade Deadline Update: Dodgers acquire Rays infielder Amed Rosario in pre-deadline deal

After bringing in St. Louis Cardinals' utility man Tommy Edman, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired Amed Rosario from the Tampa Bay Rays in a pre-deadline deal.

This is the second consecutive season that the Dodgers have acquired Rosario at the trade deadline. Rosario played a total of 76 games this season for the Rays, hitting .307 with an OPS of .748 for two home runs and 26 RBIs.

The Dodgers have signed Rosario from the Rays in exchange for minor league right-hand pitcher Michael Flynn. To make space for Rosario in the roster, it has also DFA'd left-hand pitcher Ryan Yarbrough.

Rosario joined the Rays in February 2024 on a one-year, $1.5 million contract after he became a free agent following his 2023 season with the Dodgers.

While Rosario is a righty, Edman is a switch hitter and both players have played shortstop, second base, third base, right field, center field and left field in their careers. The Dodgers wanted depth because of its mounting injuries and now it seems that with these moves, it finally has it.

Dodgers linked with blockbuster move for Garrett Crochet

The LA Dodgers are reportedly linked with a blockbuster move for Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet before the trade deadline. According to MLB Insider Buster Olney, it's still unsure if the White Sox will move their star pitcher before the deadline or hold on to him for the next season, but if any team can make a move for him, it could be the Dodgers:

"Some rival executives believe that the Dodgers and the White Sox could be working on a multiplayer deal, because the Dodgers won’t be afraid of Crochet’s contract demands — and Friedman thinks big,” Olney said.

Crochet has been the talk of the town following his phenomenal performance in the first half of the season. He has started 22 games so far for the White Sox with a 6-2 record, an ERA of 3.23, a WHIP of 1.01, and 160 strikeouts.

Apart from the Dodgers, other teams have also been linked with a move for the 25-year-old left-handed pitcher, but nothing so far has turned out to be concrete.
