MLB Twitter says Cincinnati Reds deserve better as fans throng the streets basking in the festivities of Opening Day
The long wait is finally over, and the American baseball party is back.
The festivities in Cincinnati were, as usual, like none other you would ever see, as ardent Reds fans thronged the streets just outside the Great American Ball Park, basking in the opening day festivities.
The colorful red block party extended to a particularly special moment in the city of Cincinnati, where thousands of fans flocked to the streets to celebrate their home team, the Cincinnati Reds. A parade and other festivities followed moments before their opener that afternoon.
The Reds began their 2023 season against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park.
Baseball fans on Twitter slapped the Cincinnati Reds for disrespecting such passionate fans, saying they deserve much better. The Reds have only been to the playoffs a paltry 16 times in their 133 seasons.
Whether the Reds will have an empty stadium on Saturday or not really boils down to how well they do against the Pirates on Thursday. Will they have the opening day jitters, or will they silence their critics and take the win? Time is our only friend.
Without a doubt, some of the most loyal sports fans in the world!
The Reds have almost always opened at home
The Cincinnati Reds have had the special privilege of starting almost every season at home since 1876, except for the years 1877, 1885, 1966 and 1990 because of rain and a baseball lockout, also in 1888 when the team was scheduled to start on the road for the only time.
While there is no official rule that states that the Reds should begin at home, it is mostly based on geography and tradition according to reports.
Cincinnati, one of the southernmost cities in the Midwest, guarantees a better chance of warmer weather, so there is really no better place to begin the season.
