"MLB wants some of that Swifty clout" - Fans buzz as Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce steal the spotlight during Yankees vs. Guardians ALCS Game 1
The New York Yankees' ALCS opener against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday reached new heights of celebrity stardom after pop sensation Taylor Swift and her NFL superstar boyfriend Travis Kelce rocked up to Yankee Stadium.
Taylor Swift took over the football world after her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end went public last year. While the Chiefs are vying for a third consecutive Super Bowl triumph this season, Kelce enjoyed his free time with Swift on Monday, enjoying some October baseball.
However, baseball fans weren't too enthused with the celebrity pair hogging the limelight in New York.
"MLB wants some of that Swifty clout," one fan said.
"Don’t bring this to the yankees or mlb" wrote an annoyed fan.
"Please stay out of the MLB," a disgruntled fan wrote.
"We don't care, there is an ALCS and Monday night game to show," opioned a fan.
Several fans also lashed out at the broadcasters for showing Swift and Kelce instead of the game:
"Show the game not them! There not even Yankee fans. At least put on a Yankee hat if you’re going to the game. So please don’t show them ever again show the athletes who are playing," one fan said.
"But they post ZERO of the actual game," another fan said.
"Can we focus on baseball?" a fan asked.
Taylor Swift has attended several Chiefs games since her relationship with Travis Kelce was made public last year. Although she has copped criticism from some sections of the fanbase, her entrance into the football world saw a reported rise in viewership last season.
Taylor Swift reacts to Juan Soto's home run
Yankees slugger Juan Soto recorded his first postseason home run of his Yankees stint with a solo shot in the third inning on Monday. Swift had a big reaction to Soto's home run.
Soto's home run helped the Yankees to a three-run inning, extending their lead to 4-0 after a wild start from the Guardians pitchers. Giancarlo Stanton added another run with a solo home run in the seventh as the Yankees took Game 1 of the ALCS.
