Mookie Betts' wife Brianna applauds Dodger star's historic 5 for 5 night against Nationals
Los Angeles Dodgers leadoff hitter Mookie Betts is making an early NL MVP case following his hot start to the regular season. On Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, Betts tallied a career-high five hits in the Dodgers' 6-2 win, his third career five-hit game.
His wife, Brianna, celebrated the second baseman's historic night on Instagram. She posted a story about Betts' 5-for-5 achievement.
Betts secured a leadoff hit against starter Patrick Corbin in the first and went on to score on Teoscar Hernandez's groundout double play. In the second inning, Betts hit an RBI double to take the Dodgers' lead to 3-0.
Thereafter, the infielder singled in the fourth, doubled and scored in the seventh and also hit an RBI single in the eighth.
"You can’t really put extra pressure on yourself,” Betts said after the game.
“It’s not like I can just say, ‘Oh, I’m gonna get a hit.’ The game doesn’t really work that way. So the extra pressure is no good. We've just got to keep playing the game. That’s kind of all you can control."
Mookie Betts cools off from son's head massage
While at the plate, Mookie Betts is a smoking hit gun. Off the field, he cherishes his time with his family to cool off. The couple are parents to Kaj Lynn Betts and Kynlee Ivory.
Brianna took to Instagram to share an adorable moment between father and son. In the photo, Kaj is seen sitting on the shoulders of Betts and likely giving him a much-needed massage. Brianna also added some heart emojis to describe the moment.
A year ago, Mookie Betts disclosed that he tries to instill a competitive nature in his kids.
"My family's very competitive. I mean, we play marbles and we're trying to win," Betts told CBS. "When Mookie came along, it was just par for the course. You have to learn to be competitive. Or we don't play with you."
It seems that Betts is having a good time, both on and off the field.
