"My brother and I were inseparable growing up" - Jackson Holliday's brother Ethan believes 'best friend' dynamic with older sibling won't change

If there wasn't already enough pressure to be Matt Holliday's son, Ethan Holliday now has to live up to the benchmark set by his brother and Orioles shortstop Jackson Holliday. Ethan is expected to enter the MLB draft, but he expects to have the same bond he's had with his brother over the years.

Ethan Holliday is in his senior year at Oklahoma's Stillwater High School. He, like his brother, plays shortstop, but at 6'4'', his playing style differs significantly from his brother's. Both were trained by their father, 7-time All-Star Matt, who resigned his job as bench coach for the St. Louis Cardinals in January 2023 to help his boys.

Speaking to USA Today Sports after Jackson Holliday's historic four-hit night against the Boston Red Sox, Ethan spoke about their relationship and his elation after the game.

"That was just so cool to see that. I mean, my brother and I were inseparable growing up. We’re best friends. I talk to him four or five days a week. I don’t think that will ever change," Ethan said.

While his brother broke MLB records, Ethan took part in the Perfect Game All-Star Classic. He receives coaching from the scouting service while still attending high school. He is projected to be a strong candidate and follow in his brother's footsteps as the MLB's No. 1 pick next year.

Matt Holliday and family's summer of baseball

With Jackson playing in the big leagues and Ethan traveling during the summer, it has been a lot of baseball for the Holliday family. Matt Holliday spoke about the busy schedule but being able to balance family time together.

“It’s been a pretty hectic travel schedule," Holliday said. “But hey, it’s all good. We love to watch baseball." [via USA Today].

Baseball runs in the family blood beyond Matt and his superstar shortstop sons. His father, Tom Holliday, was Oklahoma State University's coach for 25 years, a position that is currently held by his elder brother, Josh. The pair also have an uncle who is a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies.
