"My grandad does play the guitar" - When Jazz Chisholm Jr. shared the origins of his peculiar name

Jazz Chisholm Jr. quickly made a name for himself when he blasted onto the scene late into the 2020 season. During his first full season in the big leagues in 2021, he was two home runs shy from becoming a member of the 20-20 club.

Not only was he fun to watch with the bat in his hand, but he was also exciting to watch out in the field. He is a great player who plays with a ton of passion, and you cannot deny that.

During the 2020 season, Chisholm joined Harold Reynolds and Stephen Nelson on MLB Network's Hot Stove. Here, the slugger talked about where he got his unique name from.

"My grandparents gave it to my dad and my dad just wanted to leave it there and he asked me to leave it there when I have my son. So, I don't know the origins of it, but my grandad does play the guitar," said Chisholm.

Chisholm is not entirely sure where his name originated from outside of his grandparents and father enjoying it. He also mentioned that his grandfather played the guitar, which could have played a part in the decision.

"I was able to sing and I can play the drums," said Chisholm.

Chisholm added that music was a big part of his life growing up. He sang and played the drums during his childhood but shied away from showing off those talents on national television.

Sometimes, the game can move too fast for rookies who make the jump to the big leagues. Pitchers throw harder, hitters hit further, but the goal always remains the same, and that is to win. Jazz Chisholm Jr. came into the league with this goal at the forefront.

"We play a game and normally you play a game to win. So, that's the main goal right here is winning every game you play, even though we all know we're not gonna win every game but we're gonna win most games, so that's how they teach you," said Chisholm.

That mindset is a lot easier to keep while being a member of the New York Yankees. He has been an integral part of the club's success this season even if the Bronx Bombers fell short of their ultimate goal.
