"My mom taking shot of tequila" - Dodgers' Jack Flaherty on forgetting hilarious moment involving mother Eileen during World Series victory parade
It was a year to remember for veteran pitcher Jack Flaherty. The 29-year-old enjoyed a bounce-back campaign and played a part in securing his first World Series title. After a strong showing for the Detroit Tigers to start the year, Flaherty was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the rest was history.
Although his overall postseason numbers were not stellar, Jack Flaherty was a proven starter for the injury-plagued LA Dodgers. With some stars ruled out for the playoffs, including Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Glasnow, the team relied upon Flaherty against a star-studded New York Yankees lineup.
Flaherty fully embraced his first World Series celebration, soaking up the energy of the championship parade. Like many of his Dodgers teammates, he let loose and enjoyed every moment of the festivities.
Flaherty enjoyed the ceremony, sharing celebratory drinks with his teammates. The veteran pitcher said that he remembered the entire celebration, except for one hilarious moment. According to Flaherty on the latest episode of "Run It Back on FanDuel TV," he had forgotten about his mom taking a shot of tequila until he saw the video after.
"I actually do remember all of the parade. There was one moment that I did not remember ... it was mom taking a shot of tequila," Flaherty said. "Because she doesn't drink tequila and I saw a video of her doing it on my phone afterwards." (30:48 mark)
"I was like, 'I forgot about this' and then ... that's what sparked everything."
Jack Flaherty was front and center during the celebrations, sharing a bottle with teammates, including Shohei Ohtani. While others enjoyed the drink, the Japanese phenom seemed to have mixed feelings.
While host Chandler Parsons asked him if Ohtani had drunk alcohol before, Flaherty quickly said he and his teammate had taken tequila shots together after each series win.
"After each series that we won, we would take a tequila shot as a team. It was always time for a shot, and I was always next to Sho, and we would take out tequila shot together. It took a lot of convincing that day to get him to do it, but eventually he finally did," Flaherty said. (29:40 mark)
Jack Flaherty has been linked to several contenders in free agency
Although Jack Flaherty was able to help the LA Dodgers win their 8th World Series title in franchise history, his tenure with the club may be short-lived. An unrestricted free agent, it's likely that the World Series champion will draw plenty of interest on the open market.
Several top contenders will be looking to bolster their rotations this offseason, with teams such as the New York Mets and New York Yankees already being linked as potential landing spots.
Although there is a chance that he will return to the Dodgers, it appears that there may be more lucrative offers available elsewhere.
