"Nah I'm not tryna hear this" - Mets fans distraught with news that Francisco Alvarez tore a ligament in his thumb and will undergo surgery

On Saturday, the New York Mets announced they had placed catcher Francisco Alvarez on the injured list. At the time, the club said Alvarez had been dealing with a left thumb sprain, but more details have come out following their 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Manager Carlos Mendoza spoke to the media following the victory to give an update on Alvarez's status. He stated that Alvarez had torn a ligament in his thumb which would require surgery.

"It's a torn ligament, so he will require surgery. This is something that hopefully we get it done in the beginning of next week. We don't know the timetable for his recovery" - said Mendoza.

Mendoza did not mention a timetable for when Alvarez could return. However, he is confident that the slugger will make his way back into the lineup before the season ends.

This is a huge loss for the club as Alvarez was going into his second full season in the big leagues. Across 16 starts, he hit .236/.288/.364 with a home run and eight runs batted in.

"Nah I'm not tryna hear this" - one fan posted.
"Even when things are great, it's always something" - posted another fan.
"Cannot trot out Navarez and Nido every game, man. We gotta do something at that position" - posted another.

This was not the news the fanbase wanted to hear following their surprise victory over the Dodgers. They wanted to relish in the victory, not worry about the future of their club.

"Not ideal whatsoever. Rest up and get back as soon as you can Alvy" - said another fan.
"And it begins!" - said another fan.
"Unreal" - said another.

The timing of this injury could not be worse. The Amazins have been on fire as of late, winning their sixth game in a row on Saturday.

With Francisco Alvarez down on the injured list, the Mets will turn to Omar Narvaez. Tomas Nido will serve in a backup role, as he was recently called up from Triple-A.

Narvaez has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .217 through eight games. Nido on the other hand, has been doing well in Triple-A. He has posted a .345 batting average with two doubles and a homer in nine starts.
