Nate Diaz, Leon Edwards, Petr Yan feature in MLB memes after Dodgers' World Series triumph over Yankees

The LA Dodgers won the World Series for the second time in five years on the shoulders of Freddie Freeman. When the Yankees fought back to claim Game 4 after losing the first three, it looked like the Bronx Bombers would stretch the series to games six or seven.

However, the comedy of errors by Aaron Judge, Anthony Volpe, Gerrit Cole, and Anthony Rizzo resulted in the Dodgers clawing back to win Game 5 and win the series. After scrutiny from fans and analysts, Judge had homered earlier in the game, but it didn't matter as the Dodgers won 7-6.

Popular combat sports analyst Mac Mally made memes by comparing the Yankees' comedy of errors and Judge's homer after scrutiny of UFC fighters and fights.

Mac Mally's first meme on X featured Petr Yan, the Russian former interim and undisputed champion. He captioned the tweet:

"Aaron Judge finally hitting a home run in game 5:"

The comparison is spot on as Yan had tough luck after losing the bantamweight title to Aljamain Sterling via DQ at UFC 259. Even though Yan rebounded with a victory over Cory Sandhagen, the Siberian lost three straight, two of them via split decision which many thought he won.

During this period, UFC fans were hoping for Yan to bag a victory, similar to MLB fans calling for Judge to hit a homer. As such, Yan's picture of him with hands raised makes a good comparison to Judge's homer in Game 5.

The second meme featured the iconic moment during the fight between Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards. He captioned the tweet:

Yankees vs Dodgers. Game 5. (Explained in MMA terms)

At UFC 263, Edwards faced Diaz in a five-round matchup. The Brit was cruising to a victory, but Diaz caught the future welterweight champion with a straight left hand, visibly rocking him.

The Stockton native pointed his finger at his opponent, and it became an iconic moment. Even though Edwards won the fight, Diaz's folklore enhanced with the moment, as the fight is mostly remembered for that.

The moment at UFC 263 is thus an accurate comparison of the comedy of errors that led to the Yankees' demise in Game 5. Until that moment, the Yankees held the upper hand over the Dodgers. It looked like the Bronx Bombers would take the series to LA for the final two games.
