New York Yankees fans enraged at embarrassing spring training loss to the Tampa Bay Rays
New York Yankees fans were left embarrassed by their side's humiliating shut-out loss against the Tampa Bay Rays in spring training at the Champion Stadium on Tuesday. Fans expressed their anger on Twitter, calling out the management over the loss.
The Yankees started on a poor note, going behind by two runs in the first inning off a two-run home run by Luke Raley. After six scoreless innings from either side, the Yankees were absolutely blown away in the bottom of the seventh inning as they conceded eight runs.
Oslevis Basabe scored two runs, with Logan Driscoll scoring with him. Tristan Peters then scored with Oslevis Basabe again, completing another double. This was followed by a three-run home run by Jonathan Aranda and another single scored by Jordan Qsar. Two runs in the bottom of the eight completed a 12-0 devastation.
To be fair to the Yankees and their management, they were playing a second-string roster with big names missing from their lineup. But either way, fans weren't convinced.
One fan stated that even though this was just spring training, there shouldn't be any excuses.
Much of the anger was directed at the Yankees' management as there were calls to fire General Manager Aaron Boone. Some people also called for the team to be sold.
The New York Yankees podcast show account, Yanks Go Yard, called for the entire roster to be DFA except for Matt Krook, who gave in a good performance.
Some fans, however, were hopeful of strong performances in the regular season.
The match itself wasn't televised and saved the frustration of plenty of fans who wouldn't have wanted to witness this horror show.
Others came in with quirky reactions to show their disappointment.
The Yankees are one of the most hated teams in the league thanks to their massive success. So there was no doubt that fans from other teams got on their backs.
