New York Yankees fans pay tribute to Joe Pepitone following death of Bronx Bombers hero

Former New York Yankees first baseman Joe Pepitone died on Monday at the age of 82.

A New York native, Pepitone made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 1962 and spent a total of seven years with the organization. He was extremely popular among fans and caused an uproar every time he set foot on the field.

He will be remembered for entertaining the Bronx crowd with several magnificent performances on the field.

The Yankees released a statement paying tribute to Pepitone.

“The Yankees are deeply saddened by the passing of former Yankee Joe Pepitone, whose playful and charismatic personality and on-field contributions made him a favorite of generations of Yankees fans even beyond his years with the team in the 1960s,” the team said in a statement.

Fans flocked to Twitter upon the announcement of Pepitone's demise to offer their condolences.

Joe Pepitone was not just a great ballplayer but also a great human being. He attracted fans from all age groups.

Joe Pepitone was a 3-time All-Star

Joe Pepitone was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1958 and made his MLB debut in 1962. He spent seven years with the Yankees before representing the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and Atlanta Braves.

Pepitone was a three-time MLB All-Star and won three Gold Glove awards. He will always be remembered for his outlandish attitude and bravado on the field!
