New York Yankees vs Cleveland Guardians ALCS Game 1 Player Stats and Box Scores for October 14
On Monday, the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians opened Game 1 of their ALCS in the Bronx. Yankee Stadium was packed with fans as both teams fought to make the first step toward the World Series.
The Yanks have a few changes to their roster as Anthony Rizzo returned from the injured list. Carlos Rodon started for the hosts, while Alex Cobb took the mound for the Guardians. The Yanks stranded four in the first two innings and both teams were scoreless.
Juan Soto broke out to get the first run in the game with a towering solo shot to give them the lead. The Guardians had a couple of pitching issues as Aaron Judge scored on a wild pitch. Giancarlo Stanton followed Judge, who scored the third run on another wild pitch. Bo Naylor let the ball slip behind him twice, which cost the Guardians.
Joey Cantillo stepped in for the Guardians but was taken out soon after walking Soto. Judge hit a sac fly to drive in Torres as the Yanks took a 4-0 lead at the bottom of the fourth.
The Guardians finally found a breakthrough as Brayan Rocchio smashed one deep to left field to get them on the board.

Juan Soto, Brayan Rocchio, and Giancarlo Stanton hit home runs tonight
Juan Soto opened up the scoreboard after smashing a solo home run deep to center field as the Yanks took a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the third. It was Soto's first postseason home run in pinstripes.
Brayan Rocchio was the only player to score against Rodon during the top of the sixth inning. Rodon had a strong outing for the Yanks, surrendering just one run in six innings.
Giancarlo Stanton continued his postseason hot-hitting streak as he smashed a solo shot at the bottom of the seventh inning. The Yankees took to a strong 5-1 lead. The Guardians fought back as Steven Kwan drove in the second run against Tim Hill at the top of the eighth inning.
Luke Weaver stepped in to close the game successfully for the Bronx Bombers as they took Game 1 of the ALCS. Gerrit Cole will get the ball in Game 2, while Tanner Bibee will take the mound for the Guardians.
