New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals Game Player Stats and Box Scores for September 11

After being shut out the other day, the New York Yankees rebounded with a close 4-3 win on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. They also won the three-game series 2-1 to extend their lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East division to 1.5 games.

The Yankees had their star rookie, Luis Gil, on the mound. The rookie pitched five innings for just one run while striking out five hitters. The sole run that he gave up was a solo home run by Michael Massey in the fourth inning.

On the other hand, the Royals' ace Cole Ragans pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts. He was having a scoreless night until Juan Soto sent one out of the park for a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Royals tied the game in the seventh on a sac fly by Salvador Perez. The bullpen pitchers of both teams put up blanks in the next two innings to force extra innings.

Both added a run each in the 10th inning. Finally, in the 11th inning, pinch runner Jon Berti scored on Jazz Chisholm Jr. infield single for the win.

Michael Massey and Juan Soto launch home runs tonight

Yankee Stadium only saw two home runs hit tonight.

The first home run of the game came off the barrel of Michel Massey, who took Luis Gil deep for a solo 375 ft home run to right field and gave Royals a 1-0 lead in the game in the fourth inning.

Two innings later, in the bottom of the sixth, Juan Soto smashed a knuckle curve pitch from Cole Ragans for a 402 ft. two-run home run to the right field. It was the 39th home run for him this season.

With the win, the Yankees improved to 84-62 while the Royals slid to 80-67.
