"Obviously, he's one of the best in the world" - Pete Alonso gives massive praise to Yankees slugger Aaron Judge
It's tough to deny that New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is one of the most powerful hitters in baseball. The 29-year-old has been one of the most prolific home run hitters since coming into the MLB in 2019. During his rookie campaign, Alonso launched a mammoth 53 home runs en route to the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
"ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote today that if the Red Sox go into July in a playoff spot, Boston “absolutely should be placing a call to the Mets to gauge the possibility of getting (Pete) Alonso.” - @ChrisHenrique
There is arguably one slugger in the MLB who could battle Pete Alonso for the title of home run king: Aaron Judge. The New York Yankees outfielder has made a living by sending baseballs into the stands as souvenirs for fans. Judge used that immense power to not only win the 2022 AL MVP Award but also set a new AL single-season home run record with 62 total big flys.
Although both Judge and Alonso are the stars of rival New York baseball teams, the two share a mutual respect. Prior to the Mets' series against the Yankees, Alonso was asked by reporters about Aaron Judge, with the first baseman giving nothing but praise to the Yankees captain.
"Pete Alonso with high praise for Aaron Judge's season: 'It's insane... Obviously, he's one of the best in the world.'" - @SNYtv
"Obviously, he's one of the best in the world," Alonso said of Judge. "I think his ability to control the strikezone gets overlooked. He's a line drive hitter with tremendous strength," he continued, raving about the Yankees captain's ability at the plate.
Could Pete Alonso and Aaron Judge become teammates in the near future?
The New York Mets slugger is in the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The fact that Alonso and the Mets have not yet agreed to a contract extension has led many to believe that the team could look to trade him at some point this summer.
One of the potential destinations for Alonso that has been speculated has been the New York Yankees. Given the long-term injury to Anthony Rizzo, the Yankees could look to unload some of their young prospects in exchange for Alonso.
"PETE ALONSO → YANKEES??? Should the New York teams link up on a HUGE trade for the 2x HR Derby champ? #RepBX | #LGM | #MLB" - @FanDuel
While it might seem unlikely that the Mets would want to trade their superstar to the Yankees, getting something in return might be a better option than losing him for nothing.
