"One of the greatest meltdowns" - Alex Rodriguez disappointed in Yankees after team blows 5-0 lead to lose World Series title

Former New York Yankees stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter were both on the broadcasting team covering the World Series when the Bronx Bombers imploded to give away a 5-0 lead on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

After finally getting a win in Game 4 of the series, the Yankees started Game 5 well, taking a 5-0 lead after the third inning. However, they gave up five runs in the fifth to blow their lead and open the door for the Dodgers. Rodriguez was shocked by the team's performance as the Dodgers came back to win Game 5 and win the World Series.

He said:

"This is one of the greatest meltdowns that I've ever seen in 40 years."

Alex Rodriguez is a former MLB infielder who started his career with the Seattle Mariners before going on to join the Texas Rangers for a few seasons. However, he is best remembered for his time with the New York Yankees, where he won his first and only World Series title in 2009.

Now working as an MLB broadcaster covering the World Series, Rodriguez was understandably shocked to see the Yankees throw away a 5-0 lead in the game.

Everything seemed to be going well when Aaron Judge started his night with a two-run home run, and the rest of the New York lineup followed his lead to control of the game. However, they also lost control of the game just as quickly when a fielding error from Judge ultimately resulted in a defensive meltdown from the team.

Giancarlo Stanton breaks Yankees record for postseason homers previously held by Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is best remembered among New York Yankees fans for helping them to their last World Series title in 2009. During that postseason run, Rodriguez hit six home runs and tied the franchise record previously held by Bernie Williams. However, Giancarlo Stanton has now broken that record with his seventh homer of the postseason in their 7-6 loss on Wednesday.

In their 2020 postseason run, Stanton hit six homers to tie the franchise record with Rodriguez and Williams, before ultimately losing the ALDS to the Tampa Bay Rays. Having made it to the World Series this year, Stanton has bettered his record with seven postseason home runs and 18 overall in his Yankees career, the third most in franchise history.
