Orioles Trade Rumors: Jameson Taillon garners interest as Jack Flaherty remains an option ahead of MLB trade deadline
The Baltimore Orioles have been linked to several star pitchers regarding strengthening their rotation and bullpen ahead of the postseason push. With the deadline approaching, they are scouting two pitchers: Jameson Taillon and Jack Flaherty.
Although the Orioles struggled with their offense all season long, their pitching needs polishing to win a second consecutive AL East title. They lost Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells early to season-ending injuries. Thus, they had to rely on Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez to deliver in the four-man core rotation including Dean Kremer and Albert Suarez.
The Os are looking for a permanent solution for the fifth spot. Per reports, they have contacted the Chicago Cubs for a possible trade for Jameson Taillon, who is in his second season with the team. His $18 million annual fees might be too much for a team looking to rebuild for the future. Although Taillon has two years of club control left, his 3.90 ERA in over 1,000 career innings pitched will attract Baltimore.
Another pitcher the Os look to land is Tigers' Jack Flaherty. Like most other teams requiring locking up an ace, the Os too went for Tarik Skubal. It seems like Skubal will remain in Detroit, but their #2 starter, Flaherty, might be on the move. In 106.2 innings this season, he has 133 strikeouts with a 2.95 ERA.
Can either Jameson Taillon or Jack Flaherty be a long-term starter for Orioles?
Brandon Hyde and the rest of the management will have their work cut out in the offseason as Corbin Burnes, their ace, heads into free agency. If the 2024 American League All-Star starter doesn't re-sign with the organization, Baltimore will have to look to add someone with an eye on the future.
Jameson Taillon has a strong contract with two years of club control left. Meanwhile, Flaherty has a one-year contract but could be locked in for the future at a much cheaper price than Burnes.
