Patrick Mahomes Sr.: "He threw the ball across the diamond and hit the 1B right between the eyes, broke his glasses"

Patrick Mahomes Sr. realized early on that his son was special. Patrick Mahomes II is set to make his third Super Bowl appearance in four years. Standing between him and his second championship is Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mahomes' talent is unquestionable and he comes from a long line of gifted athletes. His father, Pat Mahomes, was a major leaguer between 1992-2003. Patrick Mahomes II was raised amongst some of baseball's all-time greats, including John Franco, Mike Hampton and Al Leiter.

In a recent article for the New York Post, Pat Mahomes spoke about his son's natural abilities and his desire to always be at the ballpark.

Mahomes was a talented athlete from an early age and played football, baseball and basketball in high school. Choosing MLB over the NFL was a real possibility for Mahomes. He was a dominant pitcher during his senior year and even threw a no-hitter (16 strikeouts). He was even selected in the 2014 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.

The right-handed flamethrower eventually opted for football over baseball, accepting an offer from Texas Tech. He was drafted as the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft and the rest is history.

A high-ankle sprain is a concern for Mahomes. The 27-year-old hurt himself early in the divisional round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Super Bowl will take place on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Arizona.

Along with Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts, Mahomes is part of a new generation of supremely talented quarterbacks in the NFL. Mahomes has reached the NFC championship game for the fifth consecutive season yet only has one ring to his name. He will be desperate for another Super Bowl to establish himself as one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks.
