"Pedro Grifol, he could be fired at any moment now" — MLB analyst discusses the White Sox's disastrous season and potential shakeups

The Chicago White Sox have had a disastrous season. They are by far the worst team in baseball, as their 84 losses are 14 more than the next-closest team. They're on pace to set records for poor play, and the future doesn't look all that bright, either.

In the present, there is considerable momentum behind some shakeups. They began by revamping the front office, but that may extend into the dugout. Per Alanna Rizzo and Ken Rosenthal, Pedro Grifol's days are numbered.

"This entire season for the White Sox has been a waste of space... The way that they have handled situations this entire season... If you throw out the two 14-game losing streaks, they still would have the worst winning percentage in baseball," Rosenthal said.

She mentioned that Garrett Crochet might have hurt himself and the team when he indicated that any team trading for him would need to extend him or he wouldn't play in the postseason. That may have caused contenders to pump the brakes.

Rosenthal added that they're on pace to shatter the loss record:

"Their manager, Pedro Grifol, he could be fired any moment now."

Whether he lasts the season or not, wholesale changes will probably be coming to the White Sox this offseason.

The White Sox didn't make blockbuster moves

The Chicago White Sox may be the worst team in baseball, but they had more than a few players that other teams coveted. Two players were expected to be highly sought after: Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr.

Neither was moved at the deadline, though it is probable that they would have filled their farm system with top-end talent for one or both of those players. They did move Tommy Pham and Erick Fedde, but they didn't do enough.

With many expecting big moves, the White Sox did not do the kind of shakeup that could have altered the trajectory of their franchise. Perhaps they view Crochet and Robert as genuine building blocks, but the time is short for them to begin building.
