"People are pigs"; "Evil among us" - Yankees fans outraged over Carlos Rodon's wife Ashley receiving vile homophobic r*pe threats
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has had a decent 2024 season but has struggled in key moments of some big games. That issue was once again highlighted as he gave up four runs in the top of the fourth against the Kansas City Royals in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday. Despite the Royals rallying Rodon, he was ultimately taken off the mound with one out remaining.
Following the game, Carlos Rodon's wife Ashley took to X and shared the dark side of social media. She posted screenshots of the horrible messages she received on Instagram following her husband's performance.
Yankees fans expressed their disgust at the offensive messages and threats.
"I'm sorry you have to deal with that, Ashley. Unfortunately people are pigs, they don't know how to act. No profile picture and no followers. This is why Social media stinks. Fake tough guys," one fan said.
"Evil among us. So sorry," another fan said.
"Disgusting behavior," a fan wrote.
"They aren't Yankee fans, they're disgusting human beings. I'm so sorry Ashley," another fan posted.
":( sad to see this. Wishing you guys the best as always" one fan wrote.
Yankees star makes bold claim after defeat to Royals
On Monday, the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Yankees 4-2 at Yankee Stadium, tying the ALDS 1-1. After the hosts initially opened the scoring, the Royals took a three-run lead in the top of the fourth inning, which was enough for the win. Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to spark a last-gasp comeback, but it proved to be a mere consolation.
Speaking to the press after the game, Chisholm made a confident claim and attributed the Royals' victory to "luck".
"[0:04] It still feels the same, that we’re gonna win it, you know?" Chisholm said. "I don’t feel like anybody feels any different, you know? We’re gonna go out there and do our thing still."
"We still don’t feel like any team is better than us. Like you said, we had a lot of missed opportunities tonight. So, they just got lucky."
The series heads over to Kansas, as Kauffman Stadium will host a playoff game for the first time since the World Series-clinching game for the Royals back in 2015. Game 3 of the ALDS has all the makings of another intriguing pitching duel as Clarke Schmidt (Yankees) and Seth Lugo (Royals) take to the mound.
