"Pete Alonso will start juicing for that chain"; "Everything is bigger in Texas" - MLB fans buzz over first look at 2024 Home Run Derby chain
MLB released the first look at the 2024 Home Run Derby chain, which will be awarded to the ballplayer who hits the most home runs in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on July 15 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The chain has a very rustic and characteristic feel to it. The hefty pendant is in the shape of a diamond and is made of silver and gold, with the words 'Derby Champ' written in the middle.
In between the two words is a blue star, which gives the chain an electrifying look. The pendant is connected with a gold and silver intertwined Cuban link, and the words in the middle have diamonds encrusted on them. Take a look at the images here:
MLB fans are buzzing over the design of the chain and didn't hold back from voicing their take on it. Some fans commented on the overall design of the chain, while others voiced the probable contenders who could win this on July 15. Some fan comments were as follows:
"The first neck chain that converts to a rodeo buckle. Everything is bigger in Texas," one fan commented.
"Pete Alonso will start juicing for that chain," another fan commented.
"Please tell me it can be worn as a belt buckle," yet another fan commented.
"Coming home to Baltimore baby! BIRDS BY A BILLION," commented one fan.
"I can already see ”Ozuna From The Braves” using this as his next get out of jail free card," commented another fan.
"Hitting dingers is getting someone the bling," commented yet another fan.
The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby has big-name ballplayers participating this season
So far, five ballplayers have confirmed their participation in the 2024 Home Run Derby. The spots are filling up fast, as there are now only a handful of spots left. Most notably, both Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge - the two home run leaders - have passed on the offer to participate in the derby this season.
The five confirmed names are Alec Bohm from the Philadelphia Phillies, Marcell Ozuna from the Atlanta Braves, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals, Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles, and Pete Alonso of the NY Mets.
Out of the current contenders, Alonso has already won the competition twice before. Meanwhile, Henderson has the most homers this season with 27.
