The Philadelphia Phillies opened their last regular season series against the New York Mets at Citi Field on Thursday. While the Phils are fighting to clinch the NL East Division title, the Mets are trying to get a spot in the playoffs.

Luis Severino gave a strong start for the Mets, dominating top hitters in his first couple of innings. The Phils sent Taijuan Walker to the mound as their starter, but his shaky performance has given the team a hard start.

Mark Vientos smashed a solo home run against Walker in the first inning. Following Vientos was veteran slugger Pete Alonso with a solo home run deep to right field. The Mets were on the board in no time with a 2-0 score.

While everything seemed to be going fine for the Mets, Trea Turner stepped up and tied the game with a two-run home run in the top of the third. Turner drove in Kyle Schwarber as the Phils responded quickly. However, the Mets were keen on winning as Brandon Nimmo smashed a two-run home run to increase the lead to 4-2. The Phils were forced to bring in Jose Ruiz as Walker retired to the dugout.
