Phillies fans beg for Luke Voit as Rhys Hoskins replacement after 1B opts out of Brewers contract: “Dombro needs to make this happen"
The Luke Voit and the Milwaukee Brewers' contract situation came to a rather subdued end after the first baseman decided to opt out of his current deal to become a free agent instead.
"Luke Voit has opted out of his minor league deal with the Brewers. Voit can still make the Brewers’ Opening Day roster, but he is now free to explore options with other teams, per @AdamMcCalvy," Talkin' Baseball, Twitter
Luke's decision was conveyed to the media yesterday, with the Brewers manager Craig Counsell terming it as a “procedural move” to the reporters.
Although Voit isn't a part of the Milwaukee Brewers anymore, it looks highly likely that they will re-sign him to a major league deal in the next few days. Voit, however, has given himself the leverage to explore other opportunities at this time.
So far this spring, Voit has been batting .316/.333/.526 with 2 HR and 2 doubles in 39 PA.
Baseball fans on Twitter were quick to pounce on this news, suggesting that their organizations sign Voit this season. Philadelphia Phillies fans in particular took this opportunity to let their feelings be known to their President Dave Dombrowski.
