Former New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez is considered one of the best players in baseball history. The 14-time All-Star has had a stellar career though he saw his fair share of controversies.
Rodriguez was known for his clashes on the field, especially with former Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz. Recently, the former AL rivals had a chance to reunite and catch up. Alex Rodriguez posted a story on his Instagram account featuring him and David Ortiz at an NYC restaurant, enjoying coffee, cake and other desserts.
Rodriguez and Ortiz arrived in New York City as part of the Aspire tour. Aspire invited both of them as guest speakers in their event held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York. The event also featured many other popular names such as Martha Stewart, David Goggins and more.
David Ortiz opened up about fan comparisons of him and Alex Rodriguez
The Bronx Bombers and the Boston Red Sox have one of the greatest rivalries in Major League Baseball history. Both David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez also had their heated moments during their time with their teams.
In an episode of the "Abriendo El Juego" podcast last year, Ortiz talked about how fans often compared him to Rodriguez and how he disagreed with that:
"People often want you to be what they want and I don't agree with that, because not even the fingers on the hands are the same. You have to love people the way they are.
“People always want to be comparing and saying 'Oh, David Ortiz has to be like Alex Rodriguez', but why can't Alex Rodriguez be like me? I have some things better than Alex Rodriguez, and Alex Rodriguez has some things better than me.
"I'm a Hall of Famer and Alex is not," he added.
David Ortiz is a three-time World Series champion who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2022 in his first year of eligibility. On the other hand, Alex Rodriguez may never become a Hall of Famer due to his PED controversies.
In his first and second year on the BBWAA ballot, Rodriguez received 34.3% and 35.7% of the votes. In the current year's voting, he received one less vote than last year, resulting in 34.8%.
