She won the NCAA title, and amid the emergence of Bronny James, became the highest-earning collegiate athlete in terms of NIL deals as Paul Skenes threw absolute gas to strike out batters inside the Busch Stadium.
Skenes helped the Pittsburgh Pirates edge out the Cardinals 2-1. He set the tone for the Pirates relievers with a remarkable statline, giving up no earned runs on five hits and striking out eight hitters in 6.1 innings pitched.
Paul Skenes has exploded into the big leagues since his debut last month. He helped the LSU Tigers win their seventh NCAA college World Series title in 2023. Soon thereafter, Pittsburgh selected him as the first overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft and gave him the highest signing bonus of $9.6 million.
