Paul Skenes' girlfriend, Olivia Dunne, has returned from her trip to Paris to watch the Olympics. And after a busy day in New York, she made a road trip to Pittsburgh to arrive just in time for Skenes' scheduled start against the Arizona Diamondbacks at PNC Park on Sunday.
The LSU gymnast was in a white sleeveless top and donned a cool shade of glasses for her gameday fit. She shared her look on social media ahead of the game.
Olivia Dunne was in New York the other day. She spent a busy day with her sister Julz Dunne as they took the NYC streets and enjoyed delicious meals on top of a photoshoot. The duo were in Paris last week, attending and cheering for US athletes and fellow LSU athletes at the Summer Games.
She also mentioned that due to her flight to Pittsburgh getting canceled, she had to take a road trip to arrive ahead of Paul Skenes' start.
Paul Skenes' Pirates suffer loss despite rookie's impressive start and Olivia Dunne's presence
When Paul Skenes takes the mound, more often than not, the Pittsburgh Pirates end up victorious, especially when Olivia Dunne is also in attendance. This is consistent with his having a 6-1 record after 14 starts this season.
However, Sunday was a different story, as the Pirates suffered a narrow 6-5 loss against the DBacks in their home park.
The Pirates started off strong, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Skenes, as usual, dominated the hitters and kept things scoreless on his end until the sixth inning. The DBacks hitters stretched out the rookie, starting the inning with a double from Corbin Carroll, followed by an RBI groundout by Ketel Marte.
Joc Pederson hit a single, followed by a walk to Josh Bell, which prompted the Pirates to make a pitching change. Skenes was replaced by Hunter Stratton, who allowed another run, tagging Skenes with two earned runs for the start.
The DBacks added three more runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth to earn the victory.
Skenes' ERA rose from 1.90 to 1.99, though he didn't earn the loss given the team was still in the lead when he exited the ball game.
