Platinum Glove Awards 2024: Cal Raleigh & Brice Turang beat out Alex Bregman, Bobby Witt Jr., Matt Chapman, Ian Happ & other Gold Glove stars

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Brewers second baseman Brice Turang were awarded the Platinum Glove Awards at the Rawlings Gold Glove Award ceremony in New York.

Aside from the Platinum Glove Awards, the committee also handed out the Gold Glove Team Awards, which went to the Toronto Blue Jays (American League) and the Milwaukee Brewers (National League).

The Platinum Glove Award is given to the best overall fielder in their respective leagues and all the Gold Glove award winners are automatically nominated for the honors.

Cal Raleigh won his maiden Gold Glove Award earlier in the year and has now bettered his feat by claiming the top honor to become the first player from the Mariners to win the prize since its inception in 2011. Raleigh led the AL in defensive runs saved (17) and most innings caught as a backstop (1,122) in 2024.

Brice Turang also won the Gold Glove award for the first time in his professional career and then went to create history by becoming the first Brewer to win the Platinum Glove award. His defensive performances at second base helped the Brewers win the overall team Gold Glove award for the 2024 season.

Cal Raleigh and Brice Turang earlier reflected on their Gold Glove wins

Talking about their Gold Glove Awards, the ballplayers reflected positively on their mindset and the hard work put in over the season.

"You want good presentation, and you're really just trying to keep everything in the zone as long as possible. Try to make everything look good, and the rest is up to them [pitchers]. I'm just trying to make it look good and present it the best I can," said Cal Raleigh
"The first step really matters. The distance you cover. How many plays you make that are routine compared to other guys. Stuff like that matters. But the main thing is winning. If I can help my team win, I’ll do it any way possible. That’s what really matters," said Brice Turang

Last year the Platinum Gloves went to Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres in NL and Andres Gimenez of the Guardians in AL.
