"Protecting before moving him"; "Already seen his last game in Toronto?"- Blue Jays Fans speculate Bo Bichette trade as star IF is placed on 10-day IL
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed their shortstop Bo Bichette on IL. The decision was made after suffering a right calf injury on Friday night which forced him to exit the game early against Detroit.
Bichette has been haunted by injuries so far this season as this is already the third calf strain he suffered this year. As per reports from insider Jon Morosi, the 26-year-old has been placed on the 10-day injured list again — after just returning to the lineup on June 24.
There have been rumors that the 2023 All-Star shortstop could be on his way out of the club before the trade deadline, with teams interested in his services. But so far, he remains part of the Blue Jays' roster.
However, after the news of his move to IL, the club's loyal fans have started to speculate that last night's injury might be the end of his time at Toronto. They sense a possible trade on the horizon for Bichette and fans even took to social media to voice their opinions:
"Seems like a way of protecting him before moving him"- One fan said
"Bo wants out of jayland"- Another fan said
"Have we already seen his last game in toronto?"- Another fan questioned
"Can the jays still trade him?"- One fan said
"Trade value gets less with every recurrence of the same injury"- Another fan said
"He’s gonna get dealt the minute he’s activated"- One fan said
With the trade deadline set on July 30, speculations about Bichette's possible move have picked up as fans debate whether he is still a Jay once he's back from the IL or if he will start the second half of the 2024 MLB season with a new team.
Blue Jays skipper concerned following Bo Bichette's early exit from Tigers game
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider has voiced his concern about Bo Bichette in a post-game interview with MLB.com. The manager was worried about the player's condition following his early exit in the sixth inning of the team's 5-4 loss against the Detroit Tigers.
"He was uncomfortable. We’ll see how it is tomorrow and go from there, I just feel bad for him. It sucks for him and for us.”
This injury-prone season has left a bad mark on Bichette's game. So far this year he has a batting average of .223, an OPS of .597, 4 HRs, and 30 RBIs.
