"Race against Tyreek Hill & Noah Lyles" - Mookie Betts hilariously signs up Reds star against Super Bowl champ & Olympic gold medalist in 100m dash
LA Dodgers' star Mookie Betts and Seattle Mariners' Cal Raleigh hilariously signed up an MLB representative for the potential inter-sport race between speedsters Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles. Discussing the fastest players in the league, Betts and Raleigh settled on the Cincinnati Reds' Elly De La Cruz as their player of choice.
On the latest episode of On Base, Mookie Betts talked about how De La Cruz was the perfect candidate for the race (1:54).
"I would like to see Elly running the race," Betts said. "So Elly, we're signing you up for a 100m race, so go ahead and practice. Well, you've already got 70 bags (stolen bases) this year so just keep on doing what you're doing. You've got a race against Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles, make sure you put on for the MLB."
Mookie Betts hits homer in first game back from injury
When the Milwaukee Brewers hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers for the series opener on the 12th of August, Mookie Betts made his long-awaited return to the diamond after having spent nearly two months on the IL due to a broken left hand.
Betts' injury was originally sustained after he was hit by a pitch on June 16.
After hitting a two-run homer in the top of the third to open the scoring in the game, Betts made a perfect return to the side. Eventually winning 5-2 on the day, the three RBIs coming from his bat proved to be the difference for his side.
The Dodgers eventually won the series in Milwaukee, going on to win the next series in St. Louis as well, and on Wednesday, they swept the Seattle Mariners at home with Wednesday's win.
Next, Betts and his side will continue their homestand as they invite the Tampa Bay Rays to Dodger Stadium.
With the Dodgers currently having the best record in the major leagues, home fans will be hoping that their club can build on their recent success and win their fourth consecutive series.
